Smartwatch NumberShare plans

Please note: if you have recently purchased a smartwatch in-store, you must complete the NumberShare setup. For step-by-step instructions, refer to Question 10 below

  1. What is NumberShare?

    NumberShare allows a connected device and a smartphone to share the same phone number. NumberShare is currently available with iPhone and Apple Watch (Series 3 and later); with select Samsung smartphones and the Samsung Galaxy Watch, Watch Active2, Watch4 or Watch4 Classic; and with select Android smartphones and the Fossil Gen 5 LTE Watch. When a device is paired with a smartphone, it will be able to share the voice, text and data from the smartphone’s rate plan.

  2. What is required to set up NumberShare on my smartwatch?

    To set up NumberShare on a smartwatch, you will need:

    • A compatible smartwatch and smartphone:
      • An Apple Watch Series 3 or Series 4 (GPS + Cellular models) and an iPhone 6 or later. The phone must be operating on iOS 11 or later.
      • An Apple Watch Series 5, 6 or SE (GPS + Cellular models) and an iPhone 6s or later. The phone must be operating on iOS 13 or later.
      • An Apple Watch Series 7 or later (GPS + Cellular models) and an iPhone 6s or later. The phone must be operating on iOS 15 or later.
      • A Samsung Galaxy Watch, Watch Active2, Watch4 or Watch4 Classic and a Samsung Galaxy smartphone (S7/7+ or later, Note8 or later, A8/A5/J3 or later). The phone must be operating on Android 6.0 or later.
      • A Fossil Gen 5 LTE Watch and an Android smartphone. The phone must be operating on Android 6.0 or later (excluding Android Go).
    • A Bell Mobility postpaid account (consumer or small business) with a compatible plan and data.
    • A MyBell profile associated with the primary smartphone number. Register for MyBell if you haven’t already done so.

  3. How much does NumberShare cost?

    There is no additional cost for the NumberShare add-on. The NumberShare add-on is included in the Smartwatch plans.

  4. Can I use NumberShare on my smartwatch with a non-Bell smartphone?

    No, both devices must be activated on the Bell network for NumberShare to work.

  5. How many devices can I use NumberShare with?

    You can share your Bell smartphone number with up to five smartwatches.

  6. Can I share my number with other smartphones or my landline?

    No, NumberShare only allows you to share your phone number with a secondary mobile device that is paired with a compatible smartphone.

  7. Can I use Smartwatch NumberShare across Canada?

    Yes, your smartwatch with NumberShare will work in any VoLTE-covered region in Canada. Bell has VoLTE coverage in all provinces. Learn more about VoLTE.

  8. Can I use NumberShare outside of Canada?

    No, you currently cannot roam with your smartwatch. You can continue to use your smartwatch with Bluetooth while travelling to make and receive calls, and to send and receive text messages. For more information on travelling with your smartphone and roaming, visit bell.ca/roaming.

  9. Do my devices need to be close to each other for NumberShare to work?

    No, they do not. You can use NumberShare on your smartwatch as long as your smartphone is powered on and within Canada.

  10. How do I set up NumberShare?

    You’ll be prompted to set up NumberShare when you first pair your smartwatch with your smartphone. If you decide not to set it up right away, you can always return to it later. For instructions and more information, see our guide on how to activate a smartwatch. Note: you must be in Canada to complete the initial setup process.

  11. Where does my data usage for my smartwatch show up on my bill?

    As part of the activation process, you’ll receive a 10-digit device identification number for your smartwatch. Associated data usage will appear on your bill under this number.

  12. I’ve changed the phone number on my smartphone that’s paired with my smartwatch and NumberShare has stopped working. What do I do?

    Your Smartwatch plan must be reactivated. In most cases, it takes less than a minute. To do so, please follow these steps:
    For Apple Watch:

    1. Open the Watch app on your iPhone.
    2. Select Cellular from the My Watch tab.
    3. Tap on the “i” icon to the right of the Bell item.
    4. Select Manage to open the Bell web page.
    5. Select Reconnect cellular service on my watch.
    6. Tap the Reconnect button.

    For the Samsung Galaxy Watch:
    1. Open the Galaxy Wearable app on your Samsung smartphone.
    2. Select Settings > Mobile Networks > Manage.
    3. Select Manage to open the Bell web page.
    4. Select Reconnect cellular service on my watch.
    5. Tap the Reconnect button.

    For the Fossil Watch:
    1. Open the Wear OS app on your Android smartphone.
    2. Select Advanced settings > Mobile network settings > Change subscription.
    3. Enter your mobile phone number on the Bell web page, then enter the one-time verification code sent via text message.
    4. Select Reconnect cellular service on my watch.
    5. Tap the Reconnect button.

  13. How do I stop sharing my number with my smartwatch?

    To stop sharing your phone number with your smartwatch, you’ll need to deactivate your monthly Smartwatch plan with NumberShare. Please call 1 800 667-0123, or dial *611 from any Bell mobile device, to have one of our agents assist you. Please note that if you cancel your monthly Smartwatch plan, you’ll no longer be able to take advantage of the cellular features of your smartwatch: you’ll only be able to use your watch over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

  14. I purchased a smartwatch from a store other than Bell. How do I activate it with NumberShare?

    To pair your smartwatch, follow the setup instructions on your phone. You can also see our guide on how to activate a smartwatch.

Smartwatch Standalone plans with Apple Family Setup

  1. What is Apple Family Setup?

    Bell is the first Canadian carrier to offer smartwatch plans that support Apple Family Setup on compatible Apple devices. Bell customers with a compatible iPhone can take advantage of our Standalone Smartwatch plans, which allow you to pair an iPhone with up to five Apple Watches – each with their own dedicated phone number, Apple ID and access to data usage, calling, texting and voicemail/visual voicemail.

    This service is ideal for family members who don’t have their own phone, and is a great option for parents with younger kids, or caregivers with elderly family members

    With Apple Family Setup, you can take advantage of great features including:

    • Creating location notifications
    • Getting notified if a fall is detected (available for users 18 and older)
    • Getting high and low heart rate notifications (available for users 13 and older)
    • Selecting emergency contacts
    • Creating a Medical ID
    • Choosing Activity goals (users under the age of 13 can use move minutes, rather than active calories, for their Move goal in the Activity app)

    Note: if you pair an Apple Watch for a family member using Family Setup, the following features/apps are unavailable: Irregular heart rhythm notifications, ECG, Cycle Tracking, Sleep, Blood Oxygen, Podcasts, Remote, News, Home, Shortcuts.

  2. What is required to set up my Apple Watch using Apple Family Setup?

    • An Apple Watch Series 4 or later (Cellular + GPS), operating on watchOS 7.2 or higher.
    • For initial setup: an iPhone 6s or later, operating on iOS 14.3 or higher (or operating on iOS 15 for the Apple Watch Series 7), connected to the Bell Mobility network on a Consumer or Small Business account (excluding Prepaid plans). The iPhone and the Apple Watch do not need to be on the same account.
    • A Bell Smartwatch Standalone plan for the Apple Watch.
    • An Apple ID for the family member setting up the Apple Watch. This can be created when pairing the Apple Watch with Family Setup.

  3. How much does the Smartwatch Standalone plan cost and what does it include?

    The Smartwatch Standalone plan is $15/month.

  4. How do I get started with Apple Family Setup on my iPhone for a family member?

    To add a family member to Apple Family Setup, open the Watch app on your iPhone and choose “Setup for a Family Member” when pairing the Apple Watch. During the Family Setup process, you will be able to establish Family Sharing and add/create a unique Apple ID for your family member. After the initial pairing process, the Apple Watch is fully functional on its own with its own dedicated phone number and monthly plan.

  5. Can I add my family member to my existing Bell Mobility monthly plan?

    Yes, if your family member has a compatible Apple Watch, you can add their Apple Watch as an additional line on your existing monthly Consumer or Small Business account. Please see the step-by-step instructions to get started.

    If you are handing down a previous-generation Apple Watch to a family member that you purchased from Bell, please ensure the Apple Watch does not have an outstanding SmartPay balance and meets all eligibility requirements. You can view your SmartPay balance in MyBell. Once logged in, click My services at the top-left of the page and then select the device you would like to view. On the device’s Overview page, in the section titled My device, click More about my device.

  6. How many Apple Watches can I connect through Apple Family Setup on my iPhone?

    Apple Family Setup can support up to five Apple Watches.

  7. Can I switch from a Smartwatch NumberShare plan to a Smartwatch Standalone plan or vice versa?

    Yes. To switch your plan type, you can call 1 866 797-3941 or visit your nearest Bell store.

  8. How can I view and manage my smartwatch data usage?

    You can view and manage data usage in MyBell. Once logged in, click My services at the top-left of the page and then select the device you would like to view. On the device’s Overview page, you can see the total data usage to date for your current billing cycle under My usage. For more information, click View usage details.

  9. Will my Smartwatch Standalone plan work across Canada?

    Yes, your Smartwatch Standalone plan and Apple Watch will work in any VoLTE-covered region in Canada. Bell has VoLTE coverage in all provinces. Learn more about VoLTE.

  10. Can I use my Smartwatch Standalone plan outside of Canada?

    No, you currently cannot use your Apple Watch on a Smartwatch Standalone plan outside of Canada.

  11. I purchased an Apple Watch from a store other than Bell. Can I activate it using Apple Family Setup?

    Yes, you can activate your eligible Apple Watch on a Smartwatch Standalone plan using Apple Family Setup.

Smartwatch plan is available with compatible devices and within network coverage areas available from Bell Mobility where technology permits, and is not available for use outside of Canada. The Smartwatch NumberShare plans use NumberShare, which allows you to share your smartphone’s number with your smartwatch. The Smartwatch Standalone plans allow you to pair an Apple Watch with its own phone number to your iPhone using Apple’s Family Setup.
