What is 5G and how is it different from 4G LTE?

5G is the latest generation of wireless technology. Compared to 4G LTE, it delivers much faster download speeds, lower latency, and greater capacity for connected devices. On Bell, your phone will automatically connect to 5G where available9 and seamlessly switch to the fastest available 4G LTE network in other areas.

What is 5G+?

The Bell 5G+ network builds on the strength of our existing 5G network by using higher-frequency spectrums (3500 and 3800 MHz), delivering speeds up to 65% faster.4 It acts as a “turbo” lane, providing increased capacity and a more responsive connection in high-traffic areas like stadiums, malls and city centres. Plus, with up to 3x lower latency, it’s great for data-heavy activities like streaming in HD, live gaming and video conferencing. Although 5G covers more areas overall, 5G+ delivers a faster, more reliable experience in high-density locations, even during peak usage.

Do I need a new phone to access the Bell 5G+ network?

To access 5G+, you need a 5G-compatible device and an eligible rate plan. Most newer phones (iPhone 12 and newer, Samsung Galaxy S21 and newer) are 5G+ compatible. If you are in a 5G+ coverage area with a compatible plan, you will see a "5G+" icon on your phone’s status bar.
